Oscar Wilde once said something to the effect that "Second marriages are the triumph of optimism over experience." Perhaps. But perhaps the prior experience was just not the right experience. Who is to say that what is expected or conventional is right for all couples, or for all people, or for all times? How many people after they have reached a "certain age" would be brave/foolhardy enough to throw out their comfortable routine lives to take one more ride on the carousel for a chance at the brass ring. Forty Carats gives us the chance to look on as someone who "ought to know better" wrestles with their doubts and fears. It also gives us the opportunity to ask ourselves what would we do if a totally unexpected, unconventional and, to some eyes, inappropriate chance for love and happiness laid siege to us. Come on!
