One of the greatest things about getting involved with theatre is that there's always another show to do - unless the rights are unavailable, which is why you are watching "On Golden Pond" right now instead of "Brighton Beach Memoirs"! But there is another set to design, another role to play, another prop to borrow from someone's attic. A season's worth of shows fly past, and when that cycle ends, there's next season to look forward to.
Curiously, though, while you are working on a show, time stands still. You live in the moment, inhabiting a time and place, getting to know a group of actors ... and then it's gone. That show closes, the costumes are packed away, and you move on to the next. The experience is sad and happy, bittersweet and intoxicating.
In this moment of time I hope you enjoy spending an evening with Norman and Ethel Thayer. They have been coming to Golden Pond every summer for 48 years - but this year is different. Though life on the pond will continue through its endless cycles, the Thayers realize this may be their last opportunity to witness it together. So stay and watch with them for a moment, won't you, because soon this moment will be gone, and we'll be on to the next.
