When I first read the script for "A Little Murder
Never Hurt Anybody", I visualized it as a Noel Coward-like play from
the 30's or 40's. Matthew and Julia Perry seemed to cry out for a Cary
Grant and Irene Dunne. Although we've updated the time period
(bringing it to the 21st century), I've tried to stay true to my
original vision. To evoke that feeling, we did the set design in
mostly black and white, with a dash of blood red. While we changed
some references (like DVD's for films), we kept in many phrases that
reflect the past (like "The rabbit died"). I hope that it will remind
our more seasoned patrons of the madcap comedies of the past and that
our younger viewers will just think it's funny.
This is the first play I've directed for BCT. I have
been extremely fortunate to have one of the best ensemble casts I've
worked with. From the beginning, they understood my vision and were
able to make it happen. I can't thank them enough for making this such
a great experience.
I was doubly blessed with an amazing producer and
technical staff that made this production run so smoothly. All of the
challenges that they met were handled professionally and made my job
easier. Thank you one and all.
