Director's NotesYou Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running is a collection of four one act plays. I first became aware of this play about ten years ago when, as part of a night of one acts, I was cast as the highly malleable actor, Richard Pawling, in the first segment entitled, The Shock of Recognition. I later found the entire piece in the local library and discovered the other playlets to be equally entertaining. |
You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running, by Robert Anderson, is a comedic series of four one-acts with a common theme of poor interpersonal communications: (1) a desperate actor slowly realizes the nature of the part he is auditioning for; (2) a middle-aged couple decides to replace their marital bed; (3) a couple cannot agree on how to deal with their children'ssex lives; and (4) an elderly couple have a difficult time sorting out their past mates and lives.Shock of Recognition
