TiaJuana Rountree nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play

We are proud of TiaJuana Rountree who was nominated by WATCH as recipient of its 2007 annual award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play in recognition of her performance as Proposals. TiaJuana played Clemma Diggins.

Dearly Beloved Playwrights Stop By Bowie

Jones - Hope - Wooten

Jessie Jones is teamed with Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten to co-author a popular Futrelle Family Texas trilogy which includes "Dearly Beloved". The authors of award-winning plays performed by many community theaters visited Bowie on August 8. Participating in the visit were Janice Coffey, Joanne Bauer, Adrienne Brown, Myron Cramer, and Joe Del Balzo. Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten wanted to come and visit the theatre company that would be producing their play. They approached us about meeting us and saying hello and seeing our little playhouse. Jones, Hope, and Wooten currently living in North Carolina. The trilogy begins with "Dearly Beloved," followed by '"Christmas Belles" and '"Southern Hospitality." Directed by Joe Del Balzo, ''Dearly Beloved" will be performed by Bowie Community Theatre January 18 through February 2, 2008. One of the big hits of our 2005 - 2006 Season was "Dearly Departed" by Jessie Jones and David Bottrell.

What happens when the person who once saved your life is now completely ruining it! When he turns out to be a nerd that you can't stand but can't turn away! Rick, who saved Willum's life in Vietnam pays a surprise visit. With no where to go Rick moves into Willum's house and life is turned upside down. In jeopardy of losing his job, girlfriend and sanity, Willum has to make a tough decision. Does the stay or go? And who exactly is this nerd? Be prepared for a surprise ending in this hilarious comedy.

If you laughed till you cried at last season's Dearly Departed, then get ready for this! When Frankie, one of the Futrelle sisters, who are always the talk of the small town of Fayro, Texas, decides to throw her daughter a lavish southern wedding, things don't exactly go the right way, especially since her sister Tink's idea of lavish is a catered pot luck and Sanford's House Meat! Be prepared for the outrageous when all the sisters re-unite as the almost famous gospel trio "Sermonettes" to sing one last time.

Aging parents, rebellious college kids and baby boomers facing a mid-life crisis are the basis for this hysterical adult comedy that will have you roaring. When Mother is dropped off to live with her art dealer daughter and son-in-law in Manhattan by the wife's suburban sister and husband, their domestic tranquility is shattered until Mother is introduced to a famous aging artist and suddenly everyone discovers that seniors never lose interest in the opposite sex! For Adult audiences only.

WATCH

BCT is proud to be a member along with other Greater Washington DC area community theatre groups of the Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) to promote excellence in community theatre in the Washington DC area. Joining WATCH gives BCT the opportunity to be judged for annual awards and recognition through a peer evaluation process.

WATCH Awards

We are proud of Joe Thompson's who was selected by WATCH as recipient of its annual award for Outstanding Sound Design in recognition of his original sound design for Dearly Departed. Thompson wrote, played and sang the special, humorous, homespun songs that played between acts.

We also congratulate Joanne Bauer for her recent nomination by WATCH as Best Featured actress in a play. David Emanuel describes this in his recent article in the Bowie Blade.

Recent Reviews

Last season's production, Not Now, Darling has had filled the house and great reviews from the community. David Emanuel of the Bowie Blade writesLaughs come fast and furry-ous in BCT's 'Not Now, Darling' and by Mary Johnson in the Baltimore Sun: 'Not Now' is a charming blend of talent, silliness.

Another previous production, Catch Me If You Can received very positive attendance and reviews from the community. It has also been nominated for two WATCH awards. Thank you for your enthusiasm.
